Web108 years ago today, at 11.25am on the 13th March 1912, the coxswain of the Newlyn lifeboat ‘Elizabeth and Blanche II’ received a telephone message which stated that a large vessel was ashore about six miles south of the station. Under sail and oar the lifeboat proceeded to the vessel, which was found to be the steamer South America, of London.
