The more hot water you use the more it runs and the more annoying it may get. In typical low use homes the heater only fires a few times a day for a short while. It was strong enough to vibrate the front grill. I unplugged it and plugged it back in a few times. Even left on for a few minutes and it didnt go away. It didnt trip the GFCI either.

They are pretty robust. Look a lot like a hot water heater element. I would at least pull the cord out and give it a really good inspection. Lots of times, it is only the end.
